On June 9, 2026, local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan attended a private luncheon hosted by General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju at the Kumsusan State Guesthouse in Pyongyang.

At around 12:30 pm, Kim Jong Un and his wife arrived at the Kumsusan State Guesthouse, where Xi Jinping and his wife were staying. Amid a light drizzle, they rode together in an electric cart to the banquet hall of the Kumsusan State Guesthouse.

During the luncheon, the top leaders of both parties and countries had an in-depth exchange on consolidating and carrying forward the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK.

Xi Jinping thanked Kim Jong Un for the warm hospitality and thoughtful arrangements for the visit, noting that through the visit, the warmth and friendship extended by the DPRK party, government and people towards the Chinese party, government and people is felt even more deeply. Xi Jinping added that he and General Secretary Kim Jong Un reached important consensus on developing China-DPRK relations in the new era, and had an in-depth exchange of views on safeguarding regional and global peace and stability. The mutual understanding between China and the DPRK has become deeper and more comprehensive, and the future development direction has become clearer and more definite. Xi Jinping said that he is ready to work with General Secretary Kim Jong Un to jointly lead China-DPRK relations to greater development and inject new and strong impetus into the socialist cause of the two countries.
